The electronics distribution scene changed forever when the ungrateful Fry brothers ditched daddy’s supermarket idea and opened the Fry’s Electronics chain. “Dad never really did know what he was doing,” stated one Fry brother, “I mean, who wants to buy groceries?” When asked why they included a cafeteria in every store, David Fry responded, “We really wanted to create the most unpleasant shopping experience possible, and I think we achieved our goal…I’m not gonna lie, I’m proud of us right now. We started off by using Walmart as a template, but then John had the idea of having each store revolve around a separate theme, and everything just took off from there.”   Continue reading

Silly Business: Piper’s “The Story of the Easter Bunny”

As parents, my wife and I are very excited when our three-year-old daughter, Piper, shows her creative side. We both have different ways of engaging her. My time with Piper is more about free-play. In contrast, my wife is much more likely to participate in structured projects with her. A great example of this is when they made Piper’s restaurant in her room. Although The White Unicorn was a big hit, they now have a new project in the works. Piper is telling the story of the Easter Bunny, and my wife is transcribing it as she goes.   Continue reading

Why I'm Moving To Boulder

If you live in Boulder, Colorado, you can partake in the wonder that is Boulder Baked. This bake shop, or should we call it a “bake shop”, delivers piping hot cookies to your door. True story. Dealing in what they describe as “crazy-good comfort food”, they are (in their own words), “your late-night munchie headquarters”. Delivery lasts until about 2 AM most nights. However, the delivery service doesn’t start until 4 PM. I guess they don’t believe in “wake and bake” in Boulder, or at least not in “wake and baked goods”. Continue reading
